Helbrunn Castle, once the summer residence of the Salzburg Archbishop Markus Sittikus, is located 4 km south of Salzburg. The son of an Italian woman, Zitticus was the nephew of Wolf Dietrich von Raithenau. He spent most of his life in Italy, so it's no surprise that his small suburban castle looks like a Venetian villa. The castle has an interesting state room with paintings and an octagonal music room with a high ceiling. The most interesting part of this mansion, however, is the garden with an ornate fountain and picturesque grottoes, as well as a mechanical theater with firecracker fountains and moving figures.
