Four silver coins were issued by the Niue Island Mint in 2011 in the "Religious Shrines" series
The coins are dedicated to the four evangelists - Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The New Testament contains four Gospels that are considered canonical and tell about the earthly life and teachings of Jesus Christ. The authorship of the canonical Gospels is attributed precisely to the Evangelists Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

According to the ancient iconographic tradition, the evangelists are symbolized by animals borrowed from the vision of John the Theologian. For example, an angel is depicted next to Matthew as a symbol of the messianic mission to the world of the Son of God. The mark symbolizes the lion, which emphasizes the power and royal dignity of Christ. Luke is depicted next to the calf, emphasizing the sacrificial atoning ministry of the Savior. The eagle next to John symbolizes the wisdom and significance of the gospel teachings and divine secrets.
