Inverary Castle is one of the most beautiful and romantic Scottish castles. Built from local stone of an amazing bluish hue, the castle rises on the shores of Lough Fyne. It is considered relatively new because in its present form was built in 1745 on the ruins of the former castle. After the fire of 1877, during the reconstruction, turrets were added, giving the castle its unique and easily recognizable appearance.
The castle is distinguished by luxurious interiors, it contains magnificent collections of porcelain, antique furniture, as well as a large collection of paintings, including works by Ramsay, Raeburn and Gainsborough. A separate armory room presents a very interesting display of ancient weapons, in addition, it is the tallest room in Scotland, the height of the room is 21 meters. On the territory of the castle there are very beautiful gardens that are open to tourists.
The castle belongs to the Campbell clan, one of the most influential and powerful clans in the Highlands of Scotland. The Campbells still live in the castle, so only a small part of the castle is open to the public.
