Crates Castle is a famous Scottish castle located in the Aberdeenshire region, just north of Bunchory. The history of Crates Castle is closely related to the Burnett family. This family lived in the castle from the moment of its construction, back in the late 16th century, until 1951, when Major General James Burnett, the last owner of the castle, transferred the castle of Crates and the adjacent lands to the Scottish national organization for the protection of historical monuments and attractions - "National Trust ".
Crates Castle is famous for its quaint gardens, as well as the many daffodils that bloom here every spring. The gardens of Krates Castle are often called golden, because the collection of plants includes about 14 thousand plant species. Here you can see a very rare white Himalayan lily, huge thistles, strawberry trees, there are many exclusive plant varieties that you will not see anywhere else in the world. The central part of the garden is called the sunny garden of Scotland, where plants grow only in yellow shades. Sir James was especially fond of various ornamental shrubs that he brought from all over the world.
