According to descriptions in chronicles and ancient books, the palaces of the Qin and Han rulers were built from various types of valuable wood and had roofs of colored tiles. Inside the palaces, the walls were decorated with paintings and impregnated with aromatic substances, the floors were inlaid with precious stones.
