From the life of Russian cities
Kalyazin, a city on the Volga
The bell tower of St. Nicholas Cathedral (the submerged bell tower) is a historical and architectural monument on the artificial island of the Uglich reservoir in the city of Kalyazin.
It is known that in the 30s of the XX century, during the construction of the Uglich reservoir, the city of Kalyazin was flooded, and the Nicholas Cathedral was blown up. Only a lonely bell tower remained from it - a symbol of the holiness of this city. Until now, there are legends about the ringing bell in the basement of the famous architectural monument.
On May 22, 2007, on the feast day of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, after whom the cathedral was named, the Divine Liturgy was served in the bell tower. The church building was given the opportunity to be used for its intended purpose
