Spanish Venice - the city of Empuriabrava

The town of Empuriabrava is located on the shores of the Bay of Roses in the Mediterranean Sea near the town of Figueres in the north of the Costa Brava (Catalonia). It is notable for its extensive network of artificial canals, the total length of which is 40 km. The canals in Empuriabrava are local roads and the quays are car parks. The city was built in 1964 - 1975, and in the first years of its development, the real estate in it was actively bought by the Germans and the Dutch. By the way, you will hardly meet the Spaniards in this city: the bulk of its inhabitants are newcomers. The main idea during the construction of the city was to ensure that each house exits the main channel: i.e. residents of the town can get to their homes both by land and by water on their own yacht.In Empuriabrava you can do all kinds of water sports (sailing, water skiing, surfing, windsurfing, fishing, etc.). The city has two schools for diving and parachuting, which are among the most famous in Europe.
