Montreal is the largest city in the province of Quebec and one of the oldest cities in Canada. The city is located on a river island, around the Mont Royal ("Royal Mountain") rising in its center, from which picturesque streets depart, most of which are named after Catholic saints, for which the city received the nickname "City of Saints". Its pearl is the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Montreal. The Cathedral of Notre Dame was built in 1824. It is famous for its luxurious interior decoration, copying the Cathedral of Notre Dame. Entering under its vaults, one is amazed at the extraordinary combination of mahogany colors, golden altar and blue light, as if descending from heaven.
