Château Moulin is located in Lasse-sur-Croix, 214 kilometers south of Paris and about 37 kilometers southeast of Blois.
The construction of the castle dates back to 1480-1501. Its owner was Philip du Moulin, a friend of King Charles VIII's youth. The project of the castle, which has a square layout, was developed by the court architect Jacques de Persini.
The castle is built of red and dark bricks. It is surrounded by a moat along the perimeter. High fortified walls and pointed turrets give the castle a medieval look, but they do not carry a special functional load. From the moment of its construction, the castle did not so much meet defensive goals as it identified the new high status of its owner, to whom the king granted the title of nobility.
A small fortified castle adjoining the entrance gate, a donjon, a curtain and one of the towers, which was added during the reign of Louis XVI, have survived to this day.
The castle is currently privately owned, but open to the public. One of the halls of the castle, named after Philippe du Moulin, is decorated with a magnificent tapestry, which was made in Bergamo, Italy in the 14th century. In the premises of the former stables of the castle, there is a strawberry museum, and in the neighborhood there is a vegetable garden where common and little-known varieties of strawberries are grown.
