The castle stands on a cliff about 160 meters above sea level on the left bank of the Rhine River, about 50 km south of Koblenz. His name means "impregnable castle on a rock", from the German words Stahel (steel) and Ecke (rock). It has a moat filled with water, which is rare in Germany. Built by order of the Archbishop of Cologne, it was destroyed at the end of the 17th century, but rebuilt in the 20th and is now a children's camp.
