Hengebach Castle is located in the town of Heimbach and is located on a rocky outcropping of a mountain range that rises 35 m above the Ruhr valley. The dimensions of the castle are 100 by 40 m. From the side of the river, as well as from the west, the slopes are almost sheer.
The first documentary mention of the castle under the name Heimbach dates back to the beginning of the 11th century. Hengebach is located next to the Eifel National Park, which is highly popular with Germans and residents of neighboring Belgium and Holland. The castle is under state protection as a historical monument.
