Since 1916, the Parisian Café, a canvas of considerable dimensions that Ilya Repin painted in the French capital in 1875 and exhibited at the Salon of the Independent, belonged to the same family. The collector bought not only the painting, but also 80 sheets of preparatory drawings and oil sketches.
This is perhaps the only known work by Repin of such a large format and artistic value, which was still in a private collection.
On June 6 in London at Christie’s auction it will be sold, as well as the works that preceded it.
