Philippe de Coursillon, Marquis de Danjo (1638-1720) - French military and diplomat, known mainly as the author of his memoirs, famous at the time.
Born into a Calvinist family who owned the Château Coursillon. As a child, he was converted to Catholicism with his brother Louis (who would later become abbot of Danjo). He began his military career in Flanders under the command of Turenne; after the conclusion of the Iberian Peace he served in Spain.
In 1663 he became the commander of the regiment, and then the adjutant of Louis XIV and accompanied him in all military campaigns; at the same time he succeeded as a courtier, largely due to the fact that he spoke with the Queen Anne of Austria and Maria Theresa in their native language and easily composed poetry. In 1668 he became a Knight of the Order of the Holy Spirit.
The wife of the Marquis Danjot was the daughter of the German Count of Loewenstein, and his daughter was married to the Duke of Chevreuse, one of the richest nobles in France.
Danjot left a very interesting memoir ("Diary of the court of Louis XIV" - "Journal de la cour de Louis XIV"), covering the period from 1684 to 1720.
