Louis Augustus, Duke de Berry

Louis XVI (1754 - 1793) - King of France from the Bourbon dynasty, son of the Dauphin Louis Ferdinand, succeeded his grandfather Louis XV in 1774. Under him, after the convening of the States General in 1789, the Great French Revolution began. Louis first adopted the constitution of 1791, abandoned absolutism and became a constitutional monarch, but soon began to hesitantly oppose the radical measures of the revolutionaries and even tried to flee the country. On September 21, 1792, he was deposed, brought to trial by the Convention, and soon executed by guillotine.
