French sculptor. Master of decorative sculpture for the palaces and parks of Versailles, Marly.
Kustou is a family of French painters and sculptors, whose activities fell on the late 17th - early 18th century. The most famous of them are the sculptors Nicola Coustoux (1658–1733) and Guillaume, both of whom studied with their uncle, Antoine Kuazevox (1640–1720), and later worked with him.
Guillaume Cousteou from 1696 worked in Rome together with Pierre Legros on sculptural groups to decorate the church of Il Gesu. In 1704 he became a member of the Royal Academy, from 1733 - its rector, and in 1735 - director. The most significant work of Guillaume Couste is two sculptural groups of horse tamers for the Château Marly (1740-1745, later installed on the Place de la Concorde in Paris).
Guillaume completed the last work of Nicolas Couste - a large relief "Louis XV crossing the Rhine" (Versailles, lobby).
