Floral carpet. Brussels

The floral carpet is the hallmark of Brussels.
Since 1984, a tradition has arisen in the Belgian capital - on the central square of the city, every 2 years, to lay out a huge carpet, consisting of nothing more than fresh flowers. Now this cultural event has become the same symbol of Brussels as the world famous Manneken Pis fountain. In this biennium, the carpet is dedicated to European unity. For three days more than 100 thousand visitors admired a carpet of flowers with an area of one thousand eight hundred square meters.
In the carpet, you can see the outlines of vaulted windows that express the openness of Europe, and in the floral ornament are also present: the symbols of Brussels, the colors of the national flag and scarlet hearts. The theme for the flower carpet is chosen in a democratic way at a meeting of the representative assembly.
