Anholt Castle

Anholt Castle is called water castle, as it is located in the middle of a reservoir. This is a whole empire on the island. One of the towers, round, was built in the XII century, and the tower with steps is a structure of a later period - XIV-XV centuries. In the 18th century, both towers were restored in the Baroque style, and a park was laid out, which acquired an English character in the 19th century. In the 17th century, all buildings were rebuilt in the Dutch Baroque style. The Anholt Castle has preserved the richest library of the former owners - Prince Salm-Salm and Count Bronkhorst, in the library there are 9000 books of the 15th century, documents from 1400 to the present day. The library is located in a hall decorated in a classical style. The dining room contains canvases by great artists - "Diandatus" by Rembrandt, paintings by Domenichino, Murillo, paintings on tapestries based on Teniers, a famous German artist. There is a rich collection of weapons, a collection of works of art by famous masters, porcelain of remarkable beauty. Anholt is now a private property.
