Drottningholm Palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This very well-preserved royal palace in Sweden dates back to the 17th century and is an example of European royal architecture at the time. Since 1981, this palace has been the permanent residence of the current Royal Family. Its members reside in the southern part of the palace. However, the palace itself and the park are mostly open to visitors all year round. The name "Drottningholm" translates as "Queen's Island".
