Although the Dampierre Palace was built in 1675, it is precisely a palace, not a military fortress. Located in the southwestern district of Paris, this building was created for the Duke de Chevreuse and was intended as a country residence for balls and social receptions. The general layout of the buildings was made in strict symmetry, traditional for that time.
The unique wrought-iron gates opened in front of many kings of France. To live up to its intended purpose, the Dampierre was crammed with luxuries, ornate décor and murals from the most famous artists of the time.
The palace is surrounded by a well-tended park, the trees of which reflect their crowns in the mirror of a man-made canal. Behind the palace is an oval lake edged with gray stone, in which white swans constantly live.
