Kochia, or as it is also called the summer cypress, is perhaps one of the rarest and most attractive plants that can be seen in Japan. A fluffy-looking, but in fact very thorny shrub, which is more often possible to see on panicles than in this land of East Asia, it creates a very peculiar and attractive appearance precisely in the fall, when the stems and branches are bright red.
The genus Kokhia belongs to the Hume family and has about 80 plant species, which are native to China.
