2007 marked the 120th anniversary of the writing of the Sherlock Holmes novels. For the best screen image of this character, actor Vasily Livanov was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 2006 by the British Ambassador to Moscow.
For the anniversary of Sherlock Holmes, the Cook Islands issued a series of coins "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" with fragments of the eponymous Soviet TV series about Sherlock Holmes, filmed at the Lenfilm studio in the 1980s. The coins depict the images of Russian actors: Vasily Livanov and Vitaly Solomin, who played Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in the famous film. A place on the coins was found for Nikita Mikhalkov, who played the role of Lord Baskerville, and for the dog of the Baskervilles, as well as Miss Morston (Ekaterina Zinchenko) and Professor James Moriarty (Victor Evgrafov).
