Midway (middle) at a fair (usually American) is a place where carnival games, attractions, entertainment, themed events, etc. are held. There are usually grocery stalls and $ 1 stores there.
The term originated from the Columbia World's Fair held in Chicago, Illinois in 1893. It was the first World's Fair with an entertainment area that was strictly separated from the exhibition halls. This area, which was focused on Midway Plaisance, included rides (among them the original Ferris wheel), belly dancers, hot air ballooning, and more.
