Red partridge

The red partridge is a bird of the pheasant family. It settles in dry areas with an uneven landscape, prefers hills or low mountains with sparse bushes, often along the edges of vineyards, olive groves or pastures. Sometimes the red partridge can be seen in the thickets of the maquis. It nests mainly at an altitude of 500 to 1500 meters above sea level. It feeds on plant food, and during the breeding season also insects and larvae. The voice of the red partridge is a loud two-syllable or three-syllable calls. In autumn and winter, it huddles in flocks, prefers to hide on the ground than to fly away.
