Nuthatch is a bird of the passerine genus. By its characteristics, the nuthatch approaches the tits, and by its characteristic manner of climbing up the sheer trunks of trees and walls, with a short, albeit soft tail and a strong, compressed, large beak, they resemble woodpeckers. The beak, in contrast to the beak of woodpeckers, is pointed. Thanks to long fingers with large, arcuate curved, very sharp claws, the nuthatch climbs equally well, both from bottom to top and from top to bottom. They are widespread, although they are not, neither in South America, nor in central and southern Africa. They live mainly in forests, both in mountainous areas and in plains. A prerequisite for their life is the presence of large, old, mossy and lichen-covered trees or old, cracked rocks, in which you can find enough insects. In addition to insects, nuthatches feed on nuts and seeds of various trees. In summer, each nuthatch always keeps in one small area, constantly returning to it after each hunt in the vicinity. In winter, they wander, moving from place to place, often together with flocks of tits, pikas and beetles. Nuthatches never form their own flocks, but only during nesting they keep in pairs or families.
