Olafsborg castle

Olavinlinna Castle, or Olafsburg, is the first Swedish fortress built with the expectation of resisting firearms. Located on a rocky island between two lakes. The construction of the castle began in 1475 and lasted 25 years. Initially, the fortress was named by the Swedes Nyuslott (New Castle), then Olavinlinna - the Castle of St. Olaf, in honor of the Catholic saint of the 11th century, especially revered in Scandinavia as the patron saint of all knights. The oldest international opera festival is held annually within its walls.
