Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaevna
Leuchtenberg, née Romanova. She was the eldest of three daughters of Nicholas I and Alexandra Feodorovna, emperors of Russia. Maria had a strong-willed and rebellious character, which in fact helped her achieve in life what she wanted, but wanted - freedom and forever to stay in Russia. On the day of her 16th birthday, a young girl, having received a gift from her father's hands, asked him: "I also want to receive your word of honor as a gift." The emperor was surprised and asked: "What's the matter?" - "I never want to leave Russia, and give me your word that you will not force me, otherwise I will go to a monastery!"
