The gardens surrounding Linderhof Castle are considered one of the most beautiful creations in landscape design history. The 50-hectare park combines elements of the Italian Renaissance and English gardens with many allegorical sculptures, fountains and pools topped with a circular temple with a statue of Venus. The 300-year-old linden tree still grows here, which gave the name to the estate (Linderhof means "Linden yard").
