The Dominican Cathedral is one of the best examples of Baroque architecture, one of the most beautiful in Lviv. On the pediment are the words: "SOLI DEO HONOR ET GLORIA" - "Honor and glory to God alone."
An interesting relief image is on the facade of the cathedral: a dog in the Bible with a burning torch in its teeth. It symbolizes the monastic order of the Dominicans, who called themselves "the dogs of the Lord" - the guards and bearers of the Christ faith throughout the globe. The very name of the Dominican order (Domini canus) literally translates as "dogs of God."
Built and completed from 1749 to 1764.
