Ponte Vecchio is the famous bridge over the Arno River in Florence, located at the narrowest point of the river, almost opposite the Uffizi Gallery. It is the oldest bridge in the city, not only because it is the only bridge that has retained its original appearance, but also because it is located on the very spot where the three previous bridges were built: a bridge from the Roman era; a bridge that collapsed in 1117; and a bridge that was demolished during the flood of 1333.
Initially, there were butchers' shops; today there are jewelry shops and souvenir sellers.
