In the south of the ancient German city of Essen, surrounded by centuries-old trees, the Baldeney Castle rises serenely. Today, little reminds of the turbulent past of the castle, which for many centuries served as a safe haven for its owners, protecting it from enemy attacks. Once the numerous structures of the castle were a whole architectural complex, made in the style of medieval romanticism. Now only three buildings have survived, including a manor house and a three-story tower. The lawns near the castle are no longer trampled by horse hooves, but carefully trimmed. The castle has been restored, its walls are beautifully entwined with vine branches, tiled roofs proudly rise above the surrounding landscape. But his stones seemed to have absorbed the spirit of centuries and keep in memory the quiet knocking of monastic beads, the whisper of prayers and love confessions, the clank of knightly armor and the rustle of ball dresses of pale, slender ladies of the Middle Ages.
