The castle, a magnificent Renaissance building dating back to the 16th century, was once the royal residence of the O'Brien clan. Renovated and transformed into a luxury hotel in 1962, it has preserved priceless reminders of the castle and its historical past. Today Dromoland is considered one of the best hotels in Ireland. The majestic castle, with its interiors adorned with carved wood paneling, statues and period furniture, is located on the shore of the lake and has its own golf course and stables.
