Just 10 kilometers from the center of Warsaw, in the middle of a huge park, rises a real fairytale palace - the former summer residence of the Sobieski family, and now - Wilanow Palace.
Once upon a time there was a small country house on this place. After the death of King Jan Sobieski, the building changed owners several times, was rebuilt and expanded many times. In 1805, the political and public figure Stanislaw Kostka Potocki turned the house into one of the first Polish museums. The new owner placed in it his collection of works of art, which he collected over the years throughout Europe. The entrance to the museum was free for everyone.
The halls of the Wilanow Palace, the greenhouse and the park are now open to visitors. It houses the richest collection of art and personal belongings of the royal family. And the palace itself with its outbuildings is worthy of spending several hours in it.
