The Loire Valley is a beautiful, picturesque region where, since the 15th century, kings and nobles built their mansions, palaces and the most beautiful castles in France. Chambord is the largest and most extraordinary of the 42 castles of the Loire, a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture that surpassed all known structures in France until the construction of the Palace of Versailles a century later. The roof was designed under the inspiration of Constantinople with hundreds of columns, towers, chimneys rising to a height of 134 meters. One of the wonders of the castle is the central staircase with a double spiral winding, designed by Leonardo da Vinci.
