Kos (Greek Κως) is an island in the Aegean Sea, belongs to Greece.
Like many islands in the Greek archipelagos, Kos is mentioned in the legends of Ancient Greece. One of them is associated with Hercules.
When Hercules was returning from Troy, Zeus's wife Hera, who hated him, made a terrible storm, wanting to sink Hercules' ship. So that Zeus did not come to the aid of her son, she persuaded the god of sleep, Hypnos, to put him to sleep. The storm brought the ship to Kos, the inhabitants of which decided that it was a pirate ship, and threw stones at it, not allowing it to land. At night, Hercules landed on the island, killed his king and destroyed everything he could. And Zeus, waking up and learning about everything, hung Hera between heaven and earth, tying heavy anvils to her legs.
