Marianne North (1830-1890) was a famous English painter of the Victorian era. She spent 13 years of her life traveling. The purpose of her trips was to capture the diverse flora of different countries. She traveled to America, Canada, Brazil, Japan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, India, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Chile, Jamaica and other parts of the world. She collected all her 832 colorful paintings depicting rare flowers, birds, animals, beautiful landscapes in the North Gallery in the UK.
