The Grand Canal or Grand Canal is considered the main canal of Venice. It is not dug by artificial means, but is a former shallow tributary between the islands of the lagoon, therefore the name "channel" is rather arbitrary. Its shape resembles a mirror image of the giant Latin letter "s". Its length is about 3.8 km, width is from 30 to 70 m, and average depth is about 5 m.
