The tallest castle in France, Brissac, with its seven floors and 204 rooms, is called the "Giant of the Loire Valley". The name of the area was born in the Carolingian era, when there were many mills here. One cunning miller used to cheat. Making a hole in the bag, he spilled grain, for which he was nicknamed Breche-sac (hole in the bag). Gradually, this name was fixed for the entire area. Count of Anjou Fulk III founded the castle as a fortress. In the early Middle Ages, Brissac was used exclusively for military purposes and is now owned by the Dukes of Brissac, but the castle is open to visits and hosts a large number of local festivals and celebrations. The castle is surrounded by vast vineyards, and wonderful wine cellars store a real treasure under stone vaults - the famous Angevin wines.
