"Qingming Festival on the Bianhe River" is one of the most famous Chinese paintings in China
There are a huge number of versions of this picture. There are eight versions of this painting in the collection of the National Museum of the Gugong Imperial Palace in Taiwan alone! The strange thing is that there are practically no Russian sources for this picture.
During the Qing dynasty, the longest version of the plot of the painting "Qingming Festival on the River" is created - 11 meters long. The Taipei version of the Qing Dynasty scroll was collaborated by five artists from the Qing Court Academy of Painting: Chen Mei, Sun Hu, Jin Kun, Dai Hong, and Cheng Zhi-tao, who completed the painting in 1736.
Few numbers:
The length of the scroll is 11 meters 52 centimeters and 8 millimeters; width - only 35.6 centimeters. The scroll depicts over 4,000 people.
Scroll-shaped Chinese paintings are always read from right to left. One of the great things about painting is its changing perspective. The artist seems to be constantly changing the angle of view in the “frame” of the canvas.
The scroll can be broken down into five main parts - nature, suburb, market, city, palace.
The first part is the measured, serene landscape of the suburbs of Kaifeng. At the beginning of the scroll (right) - Spring, early morning.
