El Tahin is an ancient archaeological site located in the Mexican state of Veracruz. "Tahin" means "city (or place) of thunder" in Totonac. The buildings of the city of El-Tahin date back to the 1st century AD. The heyday of El-Tahin fell on the IX-XIII centuries. For more than 15 centuries, the city suffered many attacks from other peoples inhabiting this region of Mexico, however, El Tahin was completely captured and severely destroyed with the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors in the 16th century. At the time, it was an important center in northeastern Central America.
