Beleg (sind. Beleg) - Great elven archer of the First Age, companion of Turin Turambar. He was called Beleg Kutalion (English Beleg Cúthalion), translated from Sindarin - Beleg the Mighty Bow.
After the capture of Turin by the orcs due to the betrayal of Mim, the dwarf dwarf, Beleg set out to find him. A few nights after Turin's disappearance, Beleg met an elf named Gwindor, and together that same night they discovered a band of orcs who had captured Turin. Beleg untied Turin from the tree, where the orcs tied him to drink and taunt him, and, taking him far enough from the orc camp, tried to cut the chains. But Turin's sword, Anglahel, wielded by Beleg, slipped and scratched the prisoner's foot. Turin woke up and, seeing an obscure figure with a sword above him, threw it at Beleg, in the battle took possession of Anglahel and killed Beleg, considering him an enemy.
Ecthelion (synd. Ecthelion) - an elf from the Noldor, one of the greatest warriors of Gondolin.
He was one of the first characters invented by Tolkien, appearing in The Fall of Gondolin, part of The Book of Lost Tales, written, according to Tolkien's recollections, around 1916-17.
In honor of Ecthelion, two governors of Gondor were named in the Third Age.
