John Whitcomb (John Whitcomb) was born in 1906 in Weatherford, Oklahoma, grew up in Manitowoke, Wisconsin. Graduated from Ohio State University. After graduation, John worked on advertising illustrations and theater posters. In 1934 he moved to New York and worked at Cooper Studio.
Whitcomb first showed the technique of alternating oil and gouache. In his illustrations, the artist focused on magnifying the image of beautiful young girls, while reducing the background to simple design elements. This new style of illustration soon appeared in many popular magazines. Happy viewing :)
