Lingyanshan - "Cliff of Spirits" is located 11 km south-west of the city. Once upon a time on its top stood the traveling palace of the Qing emperors, where the great Qianlong stayed during his visits to Jiangnan. Several scenic trails lead to the top. Lingyanyyan offers a wonderful view of the Suzhou area.
Tianpingshan rises 3 km beyond Lingyangpan. This mountain, whose slope is cut by water streams and decorated with bizarre rock formations, was famous for its picturesqueness even during the Song Dynasty. Wooded paths wind up to the top of the mountain past pavilions and small garden ensembles
