Kingfishers are the smallest representatives of the feathered fishermen clan. Small fish form the basis of their diet, supplemented by aquatic insects, tadpoles and frogs. The fishing method chosen by kingfishers, like fishing with a fishing rod with a float, requires silence and patience. The fisherman sits on a branch above the water itself and waits for the fish to swim up. Then a lightning throw follows, a fountain of splashes rises - and with the next prey the bird rushes to the hungry chicks. The kingfisher hunts mainly in shallow water. Sometimes the kingfisher gets bored with sitting for a long time, and in order to warm up, he begins to look out for fish from the summer, hovering above the water in a trembling flight in one place or another. To feed their offspring, kingfishers must catch about forty fish per day, that is, six to seven pieces per chick.
