Xu Yan is an 18th century Chinese artist. For 24 years he served at the court of the Qianlong Emperor (Qing Dynasty) and created a cycle of large paintings "Prosperous Suzhou" (more than 10 meters in length, more precisely - 1,000 200 40 cm), which depicts more than 10 thousand people, 2,140 buildings, 50 bridges, various ships and ships ... The co-author in the creation of the paintings was the artist Zhang Zong Kang. When the paintings appeared to the gaze of the emperor, he exclaimed: "This is wealth" and ordered to exhibit them first in the hall of the imperial palace, and then in the Academy of Arts - to worship and admire the talents of artists ...
After the fall of the Qing dynasty and the emperor's abdication from the throne, the paintings were kept in Changchun.
