Owl is a genus of birds of the owl family. Despite the mention of the word "owl" in Church Slavonic texts, its etymology is not completely clear. It is believed that it is formed from the negation of "not", the combination of "I" and the word "feed" in the meaning of "food, food". In this version, the name was understood as "insatiable, predatory." Perhaps the etymology of this name is somewhat different.
It can be assumed that the Church Slavonic does not () be fed, should be understood as "not food, not edible" - an animal that cannot be eaten. Owls are widespread in Europe, North Africa, Asia and America.
