Republic of the Marshall Islands. A republic consisting of two island chains in the northwestern Pacific.
State flag and sea flag. Officially raised on May 1, 1979. Its proportions are 10:19.
Blue represents the Pacific Ocean. The star represents the state, and its 24 beams represent 24 municipalities. The four longer beams represent Majuro (capital), Ouotji, Jaluit and Kwazhalein, and these beams form the cross, the symbol of the Christian faith of the islanders. The position of the star reflects the geographical position of the Marshall Islands a few degrees north of the equator, which is represented by two stripes. Their shape (expanding to the free edge) symbolizes the desire for development and the energy of life. Orange stands for wealth and courage, white stands for purity
