The regional flag of Reunion has a blue triangle. A yellow solar circle rises above the triangle. Below the image of the mountain is the inscription: "Region Reunion" (Region Reunion). The color of the flag is white. Aspect ratio: 2: 3.
The regional flag of Reunion Island was introduced by the regional council in 2005, in August. In 2003, he was selected from many other options by the local Vexillology Association. In 2009, on January 10, this option was approved on the island.
According to one of the most common versions, the blue triangle symbolizes the Piton de la Fournaise (Piton de Neuil) mountain. According to another version, the triangle represents the wave of the Indian Ocean. It is believed that this image simultaneously means both a mountain and a wave. The solar circle is the sun rising over the island from behind the mountains, and also rising over the ocean.
Reunion Island is the official overseas possession of France. Therefore, the official state flag is the French tricolor.
