Saint Helena
The flag is a blue cloth with an aspect ratio of 1: 2, the flag of Great Britain is depicted in the upper left corner, the coat of arms of St. Helena is centered in the right half. It depicts a ship and a wireworm bird, endemic to the islands.
The flag of Saint Helena is not used, with rare exceptions, in administratively subordinate territories.
The coat of arms depicts a sailing ship against the backdrop of a rocky shore, taken from the colonial seal of the island in 1875. This symbolizes the arrival of the settlers on the island; the stern flag indicates that it belongs to England. The East Indiaman ship is sometimes said to be depicted, but it is more likely that it is an abstract ship. The rocks represent the island itself.
The golden chapter of the shield features a plover bird
from the family of the same name, which is a local endemic.
The heraldic crown of the sea, adorned with sails and the stern of ships, symbolizes the status of the territory as an overseas possession of Great Britain.
Saint Helena is the mother of the Roman emperor Constantine I. She became famous for her activities in spreading Christianity and for her excavations in Jerusalem, during which the Holy Sepulcher, the Life-giving Cross and other relics of the Passion were found. Elena is revered as a saint in the face of the Equal-to-the-Apostles. In painting, it is usually depicted at the time of her finding the Cross of the Lord or at the time of his Exaltation.
