The national flag of Tuvalu has a blue background. In the upper left corner is the flag of Great Britain as a former colony of Britain and occupies exactly a quarter of the flag of Tuvalu.
On the diagonal of the right half of the flag there are 9 yellow five-pointed stars. The location of the stars is the same as the location of the nine coral atolls on the map, but upside down.
The flag of Great Britain means belonging to the former British colonies.
The blue background color symbolizes the sea, around the coral islands and the blue sky over the state. The yellow color of the five-pointed stars symbolizes wealth, the light of the sun and stars.
The Tuvalu flag was officially approved on October 1, 1978.
