The Old Town Hall is a complex of several houses adjacent to the Old Town Square, the oldest of Prague's squares. It is known far beyond the borders of the Czech Republic thanks to the unique Astronomical Clock placed on it. The construction of the town hall began at the moment when King John of Luxembourg gave the Old Place the status of a city. However, no one built it on purpose. In 1338, the community of the newly-made city simply bought out an early Gothic house of the 13th century, and immediately added a peaked tower and a third floor to it. This is how the Old City got its own self-government body. The second house was purchased in 1360 - on the second floor it is decorated with a Renaissance window. The next building, the furrier's house Miksh, has a pseudo-Renaissance facade. The neighboring house - "At the Rooster", built in the style of classicism, was received after 1830, and the town hall acquired its modern look only in 1896, when the last component part was the house "U Minutes" protruding onto the square. As a result, it turns out that the entire complex consists of five buildings. During its existence, the town hall has gone through all the stylistic periods, but the prevailing style of both exterior and interiors is Gothic.
